Back to School with Thieves

Posted on August 11th, 2011 | 3 comments

The start of the school year stirs different emotions for everyone. As a parent sending my son to kindergarten, I am experiencing a lot of anxiety right now. Most of that anxiety is centered on him fitting in. Will he make friends? Will he be bullied? But perhaps an equally important question I should be asking myself is “what is he bringing home?” We all expect our children to bring assignments home, but it’s not until the coughing and sneezing begins that we realize germs and disease found their way into the backpack!

Young Living’s Thieves® line of therapeutic-grade products gives parents the tools they need to defend the home against unwanted guests. This unique product line contains an array of natural household products that you can feel confident about using in your home. Because of the natural purifying properties of the essential oils in Thieves blend, these products make safe, effective alternatives to the harsh, synthetic chemicals on the market. Thieves essential oil blend has also been university tested and found to be highly effective against airborne bacteria when diffused.

Young Living recommends the following products to help defend your home:

  • Thieves essential oil blend—Found in Thieves product line and can be diffused and orally consumed
  • Thieves Foaming Hand Soap—Dispensed as a rich foam, this soap contains gentle ingredients and can be used often without drying or stripping the skin
  • Thieves Household Cleaner—An all-purpose, environmentally friendly cleaner with lemon essential oil for added cleaning power
  • Thieves Spray—Ideal for use on door handles, toilet seats, and any surface that needs cleansing to protect from dust, mold, and undesirable microorganisms
  • Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier—An all-natural hand purifier designed to cleanse and refresh the hands

Using any combinations of Thieves products daily is an easy way to protect against germs. Visit our Thieves product page to learn more about all the products available in this line.

Thinking with Clarity

Posted on August 1st, 2011 | one comment

Several years ago I attended a week-long writers conference. I settled into my room and took out my Travel Fan Diffuser, poured what I thought was Peace & Calming®, and proceeded to look at the handbook for what class to take the next hour.

Attending a class on writing dialogue for multimedia, I was surprised at how easy it was for me to understand the intent. It was much easier than ever before. I realized that the diffusion had an amazing effect on my ability to expand my understanding of writing techniques. Entering my dorm room, I went to hold the bottle and discovered it was Clarity™!

Consider how often we need more clarity in our lives: while working, approaching any challenge, and even when we are afraid. Diffusing Clarity is simply the best approach to enhancing our ability to think clearer and be more creative.

A 15-year-old girl had issues with concentration and this affected her testing scores. When deciding which oils could help her, we settled on: one drop of Clarity, one drop of frankincense, and one drop of Brain Power™ once a day on the back of her neck up the spine and into the soft spot between the first cervical vertebrae and the skull. We also suggested diffusing Clarity while studying. Within 30 days she was seeing marked improvements in her test scores.

For those of us who simply want to grow in our understanding or release our difficulties in learning, think of the following:

  • Pick a subject you are not familiar with, yet curious about. Whether it is drawing or history or hiking, it is all to heighten your life experience. Biologically our brains become more active when we seek greater challenges.
  • Start diffusing Clarity daily for at least a half hour twice a day.
  • Apply Clarity on the back of your neck up the spine and into the soft spot between the first cervical vertebrae and the skull.
  • Apply Brain Power on your temples.
  • Apply frankincense on your hairline (real or imagined it still works).

Enter into your journey assured that you have an amazing trio of helpers. Now relax and discover how these blessed essential oils assist us in every aspect of our lives.

The Power of Scent

Posted on July 19th, 2011 | one comment

Do you know that smell can trigger memories and bring the memories back? You have experienced familiar smells, like your grandma’s bread baking or freshly cut grass. When you first smelled these kinds of aromas, your brain created new associations from the smell and the experience. It automatically attaches the positive or negative emotion you are feeling at the time of the smell. So, in the future when you experience the smell again, you also experience the positive or negative emotion associated with that smell. Aromatherapy—the use of aromatic plants for wellness—acts in a similar way. An aromatic plant oil is breathed in and can trigger the sense of an emotion. Emotions such sadness, grief, or anger can be released and replaced with positive emotions such as joy, comfort, peace, and calmness.

Now for some practical uses of Young Living’s therapeutic-grade essential oils. Here are a few simple steps you can use with Release™ and Joy™ oil blends to rid yourself of unwanted emotions and replace them with desirable ones:

  1. Place a few drops of Release over the liver and hold it as you feel heat release and emotions calm.
  2. Add a few drops of Joy to your bath water to uplift your mood before you start the day.
  3. Diffuse Release for a time then Joy throughout the house to move stale air.
  4. When negative emotions try to creep back, apply Release to the heart.
  5. Put Joy on the crown of the head to invigorate, enhance, and create positive emotions.

In the morning, when you pop out of bed, start the day right by grabbing Joy essential oil blend to empower you to take on the challenges of the day. In your first waking moments, prepare your body for the day both emotionally and spirituality. The right combination of oils can really help your day go smoothly. At night use Release to clear and let go of any negative experiences you had during the day, then sleep well until you start another morning with Joy.

Peace be with you,

Companion Animal “Heart Talk” with Young Living Essential Oils (Part 2)

The ABCs of Heart Talk

Heart Talk is also about keeping pollutants low; exposure to too many environmental poisons is known to not only affect our pets’ health, but their behavior as well. Here is a simple approach that can cement the bond of trust and love between you and your companion.

A. Start the introduction of essential oils, especially for smaller animals, by first using Thieves® Household Cleaner to clean your home. This is an easy way to assist all immune systems. Thieves cleaner is safe to use in homes, aviaries, barns, and all other places where our best friends live.

B. Use Young Living’s TheraPro Diffuser for environmental modifications. A simple method of establishing a healthy environment is to set up the diffuser with 5 minutes on at low volume and 20 minutes off. Set this way, a bottle of essential oil can last for several weeks.

Keep these three essential oil blends on hand for diffusing:

  • Thieves is useful for support in stressful situations, such as adding a new pet, changing homes, or family changes.
  • Purification can healthily deodorize a space and also act as an insect repellent.
  • Peace & Calming will help address extreme behaviors, from shy to aggressive. This blend supports and balances the autonomic nervous system, which is perfect for stressful situations.

C. Create a floral spray as a safe, effective insect repellant for instant, portable application.

Take a 1-ounce cobalt-blue glass spray bottle and add:

3 drops Purification essential oil blend
2 drops peppermint essential oil
2 drops lavender essential oil

Fill the bottle to the top with distilled water. (Increase measurements incrementally for larger bottles.) Spray mixture lightly on your pet’s feet, back, tail, or throat. For the tips of the ears, spray mixture on your fingers then rub on your pet’s ears. Don’t forget to spray yourself as well! This floral spray is totally safe—even when your pet decides to lick it off!

Companion Animal “Heart Talk” with Young Living Essential Oils (Part 1)

Posted on April 19th, 2011 | 2 comments

What blessings our beloved companion animals bring to our lives! Yet as we rejoice in the bond between us, we also recognize a deep responsibility for their welfare. One of the simplest, most powerful methods of enjoying our relationships with our pets is to keep them healthy, happy, and calm. Not every animal will be quietly calm; some will be bounding across the rooms. However, if your pet’s nervous system is balanced, he or she will be free of inner conflict and able to enjoy your shared bond.

Heart Talk is the unspoken sharing of love with our best friends in an array of furs, feathers, scales, and more; it’s a way of achieving even greater bonds with those we have rescued, adopted, or bought. Young Living’s Peace & Calming® essential oil blend can helps us achieve this wonderful sharing of emotions and assist our dogs, cats, horses, and more to feel at peace.

Keep in mind two important factors when using essential oils with animals:

1. Humans have about 5 million olfactory epithelial cells; cats have nearly 100 million and dogs can have up to 220 million of these smell sensors!

2. Because of their incredible sense of smell, the effect of essential oils on our companions is more powerful than it is on us. We only need to run a Young Living TheraPro™ Diffuser for 5 minutes on low and off for 20 minutes to assist our pets. For topical applications, dilute the oil according to species, weight, and age. For example, a horse does not need a diluted application, but a cat would need a 75 percent dilution, or more, depending on age and weight.

For an animal’s first introduction to essential oils, simply take one drop of Peace & Calming in your hands, rub them together, and then pet your friend as you normally would (keeping away from eyes and inner ears). This is the first step to helping your companion move toward a very healthy and peaceful feeling. You will notice how peaceful you feel, too!

Consider using Young Living essential oils in your car when traveling with your pet. Keep a Travel Fan Diffuser or an unbleached coffee filter in the vent for just these purposes. Three or four drops of Peace & Calming will be all you need. This is a perfect approach for going to the veterinarian’s office!

Watch for Part 2 of this blog post later in the month where we will focus on the ABCs of Heart Talk!

Wishing worlds of success to you and your companion,

Young Living TheraPro Diffuser Effective for Use on Mold

Posted on March 16th, 2011 | 2 comments

Over the past three months I’ve been testing Young Living’s TheraPro® diffuser for use in conjunction with our protocol for eliminating toxic mold. The tests were conducted in three different environments: a hospital; a closed, mold-infested 9,000-square-foot health club; and a private residence.

I am pleased to report that our tests of the TheraPro diffuser compared favorably with the 6-watt cold-air diffusers we’ve previously been using.

Features that make the TheraPro Diffuser easier to use:

  • Eliminates the tubing and glass nebulizer of the other diffusers tested
  • Has built-in on-and-off timers
  • Holds a full 15 ml bottle of oil
  • Has to be filled less often

NOTICE: In order to get the best results using the TheraPro Diffuser for eliminating mold, you need to know the following:

Because the TheraPro utilizes a different mechanism for atomizing essential oils, there are differences in the way the oils are delivered over time. The TheraPro starts off at a higher rate of delivery, which decreases as the oil level in the bottle drops. Because of this the bottle has to be refilled every 10 to 12 hours in order to be effective. This is important because at the declining rate—after 10 to 12 hours—the amount of oil being diffused is insufficient to maintain the concentration needed to kill mold. So to use the TheraPro Diffuser for mold, you will need to have at least two 15 ml bottles of Thieves® essential oil blend on hand to ensure that you can diffuse at the necessary rate for at least 24 hours.

When used in this manner, in conjunction with the Close Protocol*, laboratory analyses showed results comparable to the results we’re used to getting using the 6-watt direct-pressure cold-air diffusers. I can, therefore, whole-heartedly recommend the TheraPro Diffuser for use in eliminating mold problems, provided it is used as described above.

A more detailed report of the tests will be made available in the near future.

Dr. Ed Close

*The Close Protocol is outlined in the book “Nature’s Mold Rx: The Non-Toxic Solution to Toxic Mold.”

Young Living Shares Essential Oils at Prestigious Conferences

Posted on November 30th, 2010 | no comments

Last month I had the privilege of introducing Young Living Essential Oils to thousands of people in Southern California at both the Women’s Conference and the TEDMED Conference.

My journey started at the 24th annual Women’s Conference, where over 14,000 attendees gathered to be inspired by the likes of Maria Shriver, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michelle Obama, Dr. Jill Biden, the Honorable Sandra Day O’Connor, former Associate Justice the Honorable Ruth Ginsburg, Erin Brockovich, and Pulitzer Prize-winning and National Book Award-winning poet Mary Oliver, among many others. The central theme was “Empowering women to be architects for change,” and the energy of inspiration and possibility was truly palpable.

Also speaking at the Women’s Conference was fashion designer and philanthropist Donna Karan. Donna’s commitment to philanthropy and global healing led her to found the Urban Zen Foundation, an organization that brings together like-minded people and organizations to define solutions and implement action in the areas of well-being, empowering children, and preserving culture. Young Living has partnered extensively with Urban Zen for the past two years, working to bring the healing power of essential oils to even more people.

Young Living Essential Oils @ Women's ConferenceI was privileged to be part of Urban Zen’s booth at the Women’s Conference, which was a beautiful space where visitors relaxed while they waited for a complimentary 10–15 minute aromatherapy and Reiki healing session. Our space was a haven from the rest of the busy conference; I watched people visibly become more relaxed and calm as they inhaled the uplifting properties of the essential oils. We diffused Thieves® essential oil blend in an Aria™ diffuser, and the aroma carried into a majority of the enormous marketplace. Other essential oils used in the healing sessions included peppermint, frankincense, lavender, Peace & Calming®, and Valor®; in all we provided more than 120 wellness sessions throughout the entire conference!

After the Women’s Conference ended we drove to San Diego for the TEDMED conference at the Hotel Del Coronado, an annual event where the best in health care and medicine come together to share the latest ideas. Again with Donna Karan and the Urban Zen team, we created a sanctuary for healing and wellness where we offered complimentary wellness sessions using Young Living essential oils. We used a wide variety of essential oils on our visitors, including Thieves, PanAway®, Deep Relief™ Essential Oil Roll-On, Valor, Joy™, frankincense, Gentle Baby™, Grounding™, jasmine, and peppermint.

Both events were great ways to showcase how companies like Urban Zen and Young Living are bridging the gap between Western and Eastern wellness modalities. I’m proud to belong to organizations that strive to honor their stewardship to bring healing to the world.

Blessings,

Tracy Griffiths, RPP, RPE, CMT
