Young Living

A Tale of 2 Frankincenses

Posted on October 31st, 2011 | 7 comments

The holidays are fast approaching, and before we know, it will all be over.  Before we get to that point, now is a good time to highlight one of the most popular essential oils of the season: frankincense.  Did you know that there are over 50 biblical references to this precious healing resin? We know that frankincense was one of the gifts given by the three wise men at the birth of Jesus Christ, but what else can we learn from this ancient member of the Boswellia family?

Young Living currently offers two different types of frankincense essential oil—Frankincense (Boswellia carteri) and Sacred Frankincense (Boswellia sacra).  Historically, many believed the two to be the same, but Young Living’s recent research has proven that they are in fact two distinct species.  Our researchers have been the first to successfully separate the Chiral (pronounced Ki-Rol) molecules found in each variety of oil with Gas Chromatography (GC), offering definitive support of the difference between carteri and sacra. The GC tests have shown a difference in the optical rotation—the way light deflects off of molecules—in each species. To learn more about the science behind these tests, visit D. Gary Young’s Blog.

So what is the difference when it comes to usage? Frankincense is known for its ability to promote and support healthy skin, as well as for its everyday calming and balancing properties. Sacred Frankincense should be used primarily to create a heightened sense of spiritual awareness, and for moments of deep, personal meditation. Studies have shown that the incensole acetate found in Sacred Frankincense works on an ion channel within the brain, which may explain its ability to create a deep connection. Put a drop in journals, books, or sacred texts to bring an increased sense of spirituality.

Which frankincense essential oil is your favorite, and why? Leave us a comment below!

Pros of Progesterone

Posted on October 27th, 2011 | 16 comments

Progesterone is a hormone found in both men and women that is generally associated with women’s health. It plays an important role in influencing menstrual cycles, pregnancy, and menopause. Genetic makeup, environmental influences, and other factors can negatively impact progesterone levels, which may lead to other imbalances in the body.

Progessence™ Plus serum, intended only for woman, is a good option for those looking to supplement progesterone levels. Expertly formulated by D. Gary Young and Dr. Dan Purser, Progessence Plus takes pure, USP-grade, super-micronized progesterone from wild yams and combines it with vitamin E and an essential oil serum to easily penetrate the skin for improved delivery. Containing frankincense, bergamot, and peppermint essential oils to aid in absorption, this product does not require the cycling of application sites as do most other progesterone products.

According to Dr. Purser, some of the common negative effects of menopause that adequate levels of progesterone can help support or minimize include:

  • Hot flashes
  • Night sweats
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Increased wrinkles
  • Weight gain and muscle loss (sarcopenia)
  • Memory issues

For the remainder of the year, until December 31, Young Living is running a promotion for 10% off Progessence Plus serum. If you have ever thought about adding progesterone to your routine, now is the time to do it! As always, we would love to hear your feedback on Progessence Plus.

Sweet Dreams

Posted on October 25th, 2011 | 40 comments

What is the first thing you think of when you read the word “Halloween”? A few possible answers include black cats, witches, scary movies, and pumpkins. Now go and ask a child. I assure you one of the words will be “candy.” Not just your typical taffy or sucker, we have found ways during this holiday to turn healthy options into a dentist nightmare: enter the caramel apple.

Now don’t get me wrong, I like a little sugar as much as the next guy. I do, however, think we should look for ways to limit our use of sugar. An excellent sugar alternative is agave. Agave nectar, Agave tequilana, is created as juice from the agave leaf, which is filtered, then heated and thickened. This nectar is generally 1.5 times sweeter than sugar with a consistency similar to that of honey. It can be used as a sugar substitute in most recipes and beverages. In general, use ½ to ¾ cup in place of 1 cup of sugar or honey. You may also want to reduce the overall liquid added to the recipe.

Young Living’s Blue Agave is an excellent option for those interested in agave nectar. A nutritional profile performed on our Blue Agave indicated that 1 teaspoon contained 20 calories and had a glycemic index (GI) of 25, compared to table sugar containing 21 calories and a GI of 68. The GI is a measure of the effects on blood sugar levels. The higher the GI, the greater the blood level spikes. This is important for those looking to moderate their current blood sugar levels. Blue Agave is composed mostly of fructose (65 percent) and glucose (13 percent).

Admittedly, it took some time to dial in the correct amount of agave to substitute, but my kids haven’t seemed to notice. Depending on the recipe, I substitute agave for 50 percent to 100 percent of the sugar. My favorite recipes include cookies, cakes, homemade yogurt, and granola.

No matter how sweet you like it, or how much you substitute, every little bit helps. I would love to hear how you use agave in your daily meals. Please share your thoughts or recipes in a comment. Everyone who leaves a comment by October 26 will be entered into a drawing for a free 8-ounce bottle of Young Living Blue Agave!

Roll It On

Posted on October 21st, 2011 | 4 comments

We all have our favorite oils that we use on a daily basis. They can be taken internally, applied topically, or diffused aromatically for their therapeutic benefits. At this year’s Orlando convention Gary introduced an exciting new way to apply oils topically—Young Living’s patent-pending Roller Fitments. The response to this new product has been overwhelming: “These are great,” and “These are easy to use,” were just some of the frequent comments heard in the product expo.

Here are a few tips to remember when using the Roller Fitments:

  1. The fitments and caps are designed to fit on both the 5-ml and 15-ml bottles.
  2. To insert the fitment, remove the bottle orifice, insert the roller fitment into the bottle opening, and tighten the cap while pressing down until the fitment ring is flush with the bottle opening. Properly securing the cap is critical to avoid leaking and to ensure the fitment is properly inserted.
  3. Roller fitments were designed for use with the majority of Young Living bottles. With that in mind, there are certain bottle designs with which the fitments are not compatible. You can be sure your roller fitment will work with your bottle if the “Sb” logo is located on the bottom of the bottle.
  4. The fitments have an internal reservoir that holds oil and allows you to apply your favorite oils with the bottle in an upright position.  Each 2” stroke is equivalent to one drop.
  5. Citrus oils can be very hard on plastic; overtime the citrus oils can eat away at the plastic causing it to leak. When using citrus oils make sure prior to each use that the ball on the Roller Fitment is intact and secure.

On a similar note, and in case you haven’t heard, Young Living has also made significant improvements to the roll-on bottles for Valor, Tranquil, Stress Away, RutaVaLa, Breathe Again, and Deep Relief. Most of these blends are exclusive to our roll-ons line and continue to be some of our most popular products.

Be sure and check out this year’s Holiday Catalog for special package pricing and great promotional offers!

Vitality with Enzymes

Posted on October 14th, 2011 | 6 comments

This post is for those of you that may be struggling with uncomfortable stomach concerns—things like bloating, or stagnant, undigested food. It can be difficult to determine which foods contribute to the problem, but fortunately Young Living just launched a handful of new products to help!

D. Gary Young announced two great new enzyme products at last month’s Orlando convention, Essentialzymes-4 and the newly formulated Essentialzyme. Each has been specially formulated to support various stages of the digestive process.

Essentialzymes-4 combines all the benefits of Carbozyme, Fiberzyme, Lipozyme, and Polyzyme into 2 convenient dual-time release capsules. The plant-based enzyme releases immediately upon entering the stomach, allowing it to be broken down and absorbed more efficiently. The animal-based enzyme doesn’t release until it reaches the lower intestine, where the alkaline environment and pH level offers better absorption. Both enzymes help your body more efficiently break down fats, proteins, fiber, and carbohydrates,.

I especially like the new blister packaging, which makes it easy to drop in my pocket or purse and enjoy the enzyme benefits when I’m away from home.

I’ve also been using the newly formulated Essentialzyme and have seen great results (I’m told this will be available to everyone by the end of the year). Designed to help with bloating and related issues, it also features delayed release technology to aid both digestive and pancreatic functions.

As a family, we have noticed a dramatic improvement to our overall health with the use of these products. We have been taking them both for 2 weeks and are absolutely delighted with their benefits in assisting healthy digestion. These enzyme products have resulted in greater vitality, energy, and passion.

Peace Be With You,

NingXia Shots

Posted on October 10th, 2011 | 3 comments

Trust me when I say you haven’t experienced convention until you have visited the NingXia Red® bar! Having tended bar at last month’s convention in Orlando, I now have firsthand knowledge. My experience included mixing shots, leading drinking games, and general shooting the breeze with bar patrons. I gained valuable knowledge regarding which oils go well together and also which shots are for sipping and which ones are for shooting. Some attendees showed up with a mix already in mind, but most came looking for a recommendation.

The most frequently asked question was “where can I get a copy of these shot mixes?” No where. Well, until now. Consider this your lucky day!

NingXia Bar Shot Mixes (designed for use with 1–2 oz. NingXia Red)

Who Let the Dogs Out?

1 drop lemon or orange essential oil

2 drops tangerine essential oil

1 drop sacred frankincense essential oil

1 drop cinnamon bark essential oil

Great Awakening

1 drop sacred frankincense essential oil

1 drop peppermint essential oil

2 drops of your favorite citrus oil

Stomach Soother

2 drops peppermint essential oil

1 drop DiGize™ essential oil blend

1 drop ocotea essential oil

The Nuclear Explosion

1 drop peppermint essential oil

1 drop lavender essential oil

1 drop frankincense essential oil

1 drop lemon essential oil

1 drop tangerine essential oil

1 drop orange essential oil

These recipes are the perfect way for you to share essential oils and NingXia Red with your friends at your next tasting party! Of course they aren’t a substitute for experiencing the NingXia bar at the next Young Living convention.

Please share some of your favorite shot recipes with the group. Who knows, your shot may end up as the hot mix at the Salt Lake International Grand Convention in June. Oh, and don’t forget to let us know who your all-time favorite bar tender is!

Leaping Over Emotional Hurdles

Posted on October 7th, 2011 | one comment

Life can take a toll on your body and emotions. Too many people don’t understand this connection. Instead of releasing emotions and healing, individuals continue to push their emotions deeper and deeper. Left unchecked, negative feelings like anger, pain, and fear can move into the stomach, kidney, liver, heart, or other vital systems—essentially taking over the body and mind. In turn this drives emotions deeper into the body, creating a negative downward spiral.

Young Living essential oils offer natural solutions to combat and overcome negative emotions. The Golden Touch 1™ kit, along with sacred frankincense, can be used to release deep, negative feelings, which will help you overcome emotional hurdles. Just follow these easy steps:

  • DiGize™: If you are experiencing ongoing digestive issues, rub a few drops of DiGize on your abdomen to help release emotions stored in the stomach.
  • EndoFlex™: Apply a few drops of EndoFlex over your kidneys to let go of the fear that might stop you from moving forward.
  • Melrose™: Emotions can be taxing to your system. Apply Melrose to your solar plexus (upper stomach area) to help reduce mental fatigue.
  • Raven™: Rub a few drops of Raven on your chest to release tension in the body that is hard process and let go of.
  • R.C.™: Your lungs and circulatory system can also be affected by emotions. Diffuse R.C. to help process negative emotions stored in these areas.
  • Thieves®: Rub Thieves on the bottoms of your feet to give your body and immune system the support and protection it needs to overcome unwanted emotions.
  • Sacred Frankincense: Use sacred frankincense to improve mental clarity and spiritual well-being.

By using these wonderful oils you are adding to the power within to overcome hurdles that might be standing in your way of achieving greater wellness, purpose, and abundance.
