Raindrop Technique and the Elderly

Posted on September 30th, 2010 | 3 comments

Raindrop Technique

Massage therapists, have you tried doing the Raindrop Technique on the elderly? Young Living’s Raindrop Technique is a safe, non-invasive, and easy tool that can help the aged feel better. With a few simple oils– Valor®, oregano, thyme, basil, cypress, wintergreen, marjoram, Aroma Siez™, peppermint, Ortho Ease™ and V-6™ Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex– the Raindrop Technique can help bring the body, mind, and spirit into balance.

Here are some specific uses of the oils in the Raindrop Technique that can benefit the elderly:

·  Valor helps to balance the energy in the body.

·  Oregano works to strengthen the immune system.

·  Thyme helps overcome physical weakness and strengthen the immune system.

·  Basil is relaxing to the muscles.

·  Wintergreen can ease body aches and support the body’s natural defense mechanisms.

·  Marjoram relieves minor discomforts.

·  Aroma Siez helps to soothe the nerves and muscles.

·  Peppermint feels really good and helps the other oils be more effective.

·  Ortho Ease helps relax all the muscles on the back and reduces stress.

I’ve personally seen the Raindrop Technique help the elderly with posture, give an increase in energy, and help with their immune systems. Many of the results have been astounding! I’ve seen older adults walk better and have less discomfort getting up and down. At bare minimum, they will feel an increase in energy. They will be so thankful for the Raindrop Technique when you get through!

As you work on older individuals, be sensitive to their thinning skin and how they respond to the oils. Some of the essential oils in the Raindrop Technique can be quite hot. Have V-6 available to quickly dilute oils if needed. Also, be aware of the pressure you put on their bodies. What your younger clients can bear is usually heavier than the elderly.

Peace be with you,

Raindrop Technique for Children

Posted on September 22nd, 2010 | 7 comments

childrenChildren exchange germs with each other every day. They pick them up on the playground, in the classroom, or wherever they are near other children. So what can we do as parents and grandparents to protect our families from winter bugs? Give your kids the incredible benefits of Young Living’s Raindrop Technique® to keep their immune systems healthy.

If you have any concerns about using essential oils on children, try the oils on their feet first. If they handle the oils well, try them sparingly on the back as indicated below. Keep an eye out for reddening of the skin and let children know to tell you if they feel any burning. If this happens, you can easily add V-6™ Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex immediately to cool down the skin.

To perform the Raindrop Technique, have the child lay quietly on a bed or a massage table:

1. Start with Valor® essential oil blend. Put a drop of Valor in each hand. Cross your arms and apply Valor to the child’s feet. Hold the feet and wait for an energy change in the body.

2. One at a time, apply oregano, thyme, basil, cypress, wintergreen, marjoram, and peppermint essential oils (in this order) up the spine of the foot. Use the Vita Flex Technique for this. Remember: Children can be more sensitive to the oils; only use one drop of each oil on the feet.

3. Have the child roll onto his or her tummy to put the oils on the back. Rub your finger over the essential oil bottle to get a little bit of oil on your finger, then rub the oil up the spine starting from the lower back up. A full drop of oil may be too much if the child is fair skinned. Lightly feather stroke each oil up the spine. Start with oregano and continue with thyme the same way. Watch for any redness or discomfort and apply V-6 if necessary.

4. Rub your finger over the bottle of basil essential oil. Rub basil up both sides of the spine, then feather stroke it in. Now do the spinal pull three times up the spine.

5. Rub your finger over the bottle of wintergreen essential oil. Rub it up both sides of the spine, then feather stroke it in. Now do the thumb roll, called Vita Flex Technique, three times up the spine.

6. Next, rub your finger over the bottle of marjoram essential oil. Rub it up both sides of the spine, then feather stroke it in. Now, with big circles, massage up the side of the back on both sides three times.

7. Apply a very small amount of Aroma Siez™ essential oil blend to the areas of the back and feather stroke it in. Then do the glide stoke, going back and forth across the back working up the back three times. You can do a light massage to release any tension or tightness in the back.

8. Now rub your finger over the bottle of peppermint essential oil. Rub it up both sides of the spine, then feather stroke it in up the sides of the spine. Watch for any burning or hot areas and add V-6 massage oil if necessary.

The Raindrop Technique is a great way to prepare kids for the winter and help them fight off germs. It also gets them even more used to using Young Living’s essential oils at an early age.

Peace be with you,

Why Essential Oils Work Best for Mold

Posted on September 20th, 2010 | 3 comments

As a scientist, I ask a lot of questions and have a natural curiosity about why things work the way they do. When I first heard that Thieves Essential Oilessential oils were nature’s original medicine, I was skeptical. Even though my family had experienced definite benefits from their usage, I was not fully satisfied with the answers I heard about why essential oils should work in the human body. Young Living Founder Gary Young said that essential oils are the lifeblood of the plant, but while I can see that essential oils serve a similar purpose in plants as blood does in the human body, we are not plants. So why should oils distilled from plant materials be so beneficial to human beings? Gary pointed out that essential oils carry vital nutrients to cells, cleanse cells and receptor sites, and oxygenate the blood. I was intrigued and I could see that, due to their ability to transport oxygen into the system, essential oils might have effects similar to hyperbaric treatments which provide oxygen to cells and tissues to reduce pain and promote rapid healing.

Why do essential oils work so well for humans? To my surprise, studying mold-related illness and understanding why oils are so effective against mold and bacteria has supplied the answer to this question. Consider this: When a living organism dies, mold along with other microorganisms attack the body to break it down into compounds for food. This is a natural process that continually recycles organic materials on our planet. The difference between mold and the scavengers we usually think of, like vultures, is that molds (fungi) do not care whether you are alive or dead—they are attacking you all the time. Right now, in fact, they are doing what they do best, trying to reduce your body to useable food stuff!

Why are essential oils so beneficial and work so well in and on our bodies? They are the plants’ natural immune system! They destroy microorganisms that destroy plants, and those same microorganisms can do us great harm. I am continuing to collect scientific data on the results of using essential oils to eliminate bacteria and mold. That data, collected over the past five years, provides scientific evidence that Young Living essential oils are the best defense available against toxic mold and mold-related illnesses.

September Recipe: Cinnamon Sticky Buns

Posted on September 16th, 2010 | 2 comments

cinnamon sticky bun imageAutumn is my favorite time of year with cooler temperatures and rainy days along with other tasty gifts from nature, but I have to watch out for the pitfalls. As days become shorter and are filled with schedules, stress from change and the anticipation of the holidays invite food temptations. This can hinder health goals from the previous season filled with outdoor play. In order to combat cravings, I plan ahead and make healthier alternative treats. Being prepared helps me to remain steadfast in my health resolutions. By incorporating a variety of apples, nuts, seeds, dates, vanilla, and cinnamon, I welcome the new flavors of fall.

My Cinnamon Sticky Buns are a healthier version of the indulgent cinnamon roll and can be made through the techniques used in the culinary art of raw and living cuisine. Young Living cinnamon bark essential oil is a delicious addition to this recipe and brings a new dimension of health. As a raw food chef, I use a dehydrator in place of the traditional oven to prepare these yummy morsels. This allows “baking” at low temperatures to ensure the nutrients in the ingredients are not destroyed from heat. I hope you will take the time to add these treats to your fall routine.

Until next post….Caramel Apple Sandwiches and Cinnamon Almond Cream!

Happy Eating!

Chef Mandy

P.S. For those who want something quick, I’m also including a simple recipe that my children love for a quick breakfast or snack, Cinnamon Apple Sauce. I make this on busy fall mornings and fill cups to eat on-the-run. It’s fast and nutritious!

Cinnamon Sticky Buns (Yields 14 rolls)

STICKY BUN DOUGH INGREDIENTS

1.         1 1/2 cups raw all-purpose flour*

2.         6 dates, pitted

3.         1 cup filtered water

4.         1/2 cup flax seeds, ground

5.         1/3 cup raw coconut butter

6.         1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

7.         1 drop Young Living cinnamon bark essential oil

8.         Pinch Himalayan salt

INSTRUCTIONS
Soak the dates for approximately 15 minutes in the filtered water. Cream the dates with soaking water in a food processor until a paste forms. Add the remaining ingredients and process. Place dough between two solid dehydrator sheets. Flatten with a rolling pin or press with a flat head spatula over the top sheet until an even square is formed 1 inch from each side. Keep the top solid dehydrator sheet in place and wrap with plastic wrap. Chill the covered square of dough flat in the freezer for 1 hour or until ready to spread with the filling.

* To make raw all-purpose flour, begin by purchasing individual nut and seed flours from a health food store. My favorite mix includes equal amounts of almond, hazelnut, coconut, buckwheat, hemp, and flaxseed meals. Add salt to taste and store in the freezer until ready to use in various recipes.

STICKY BUN FILLING INGREDIENTS

1.         1 cup chopped apples

2.         6 dates, pitted

6.         Pinch Himalayan salt

7.         1 drop Young Living cinnamon bark essential oil

8.         Optional: 1/2 cup each raisins and/or walnuts

INSTRUCTIONS
Blend first 7 ingredients in a Vita Mix. Place into a mixing bowl and fold in the raisins and nuts. Remove the sheet of chilled dough from the freezer and peel away the top solid dehydrator sheet. Spread the filling over the dough. Roll into a cinnamon roll, pushing the bottom solid sheet forward to help the process. Freeze the roll wrapped in the solid sheet until firm.  Slice and place on a solid sheet. Dehydrate @ 105° for 3 hours and flip onto mesh sheets.  Continue drying for 4-6 hours or until desired texture is reached.

Simple Yoga Technique with Frankincense Essential Oil

Posted on September 13th, 2010 | no comments

3548Yogis throughout the ages have practiced pranayama, the art of breathing well. Prana means “breath,” “vitality,” or “energy,”; ayama means “to stretch.” Pranayama extends and regulates the energy flow throughout the body. As regular users of Young Living essential oils, we probably all know the importance of being able to breathe unencumbered, deeply, and fully. As we inhale essential oils, the tiny molecules of the oils enter through our nasal passages, into our lungs, and then into our bloodstream, helping increase the uptake of oxygen, among the many benefits the oils provide.

When we practice special breathing techniques such a pranayama combined with using essential oils, we have the ability to clear our minds, calm our nervous systems, and restore balance in our emotions in a very profound way.

Try this simple pranayama technique with frankincense essential oil, which is known as the “holy anointing oil.” Frankincense can help ground us into a physical experience on the earth plane while also helping lift our consciousness to higher states of being.

Three-Part Yoga Breathing Technique:
Get your bottle of your frankincense essential oil and lie on the floor on your back with your knees bent. Place a drop of frankincense into your left palm and gently rub your hands together clockwise to spread the oil evenly onto your palms.

Step 1: Bring your oiled palms up to your nose and inhale deeply; first concentrate on lifting your navel and lower abdomen for ten breaths. After the first three or five inhalations, you may rest your hands on your lower abdomen to focus on sending the air to your lower abdomen. Exhale completely before the next inhalation.

Step 2: Apply another drop of frankincense to your palms, rub your hands together as described above, and bring your palms to your nose and begin another round of ten breaths; this time focus your breath into your middle abdomen and mid rib cage area. Rest your hands on your rib cage to help you focus your breath there. At the end of the tenth breath, fully exhale all the air out from your lungs and feel your navel draw up toward your spine.

Step 3: Reapply the frankincense to your palms and inhale for another round of ten breaths, this time focusing on filling your upper chest and upper lungs. Place your hands on your collarbones to help you focus your breath in the upper region of your lungs.

Now put all the steps together for the three-part yoga breath so you breathe evenly into all three sections of the torso: lower abdominal area, middle rib cage, and collarbones. Feel free to apply more essential oil to your palms and inhale if needed. Try to keep each inhalation and exhalation equal in length. Follow the breath and the scent of the frankincense, imagining the oil and the air washing through you. Your steady breath and the frankincense oil will help calm your mind and bring harmony to your whole body.
