Reed Diffusers and YLTG Essential Oils

Lately I’ve been looking and different options to complement our existing diffuser line. I came across the concept of reed diffusers and was intrigued by the idea of this method to diffuse Young Living Therapeutic Grade™ (YLTG) essential oils.

What appeals to me most is the fact that reed diffusers use no heat, which means the oil is diffused in a more potent form, potentially providing greater therapeutic benefits. Plus, reed diffusers look beautiful anywhere you choose to put them.

Unfortunately, the reed diffusers currently available on the market use fragrances that are synthetic and overpowering, and these diffusers don’t provide the immense benefits of YLTG essential oils.

As part of my research I would like to know if you have experimented with reed diffusers and Young Living essential oils.

  • Are you using a carrier oil? If so, what kind?
  • How much oil have you put in the bottle?
  • What blends have you used?
  • Have you tried this with thicker or thinner oils?
  • Is there a particular reed you have found better than another?

Feel free to leave your comments within this blog post, and thanks for your help!

I have “tried” to find some reed diffusers that do not have the “horid fragrance” in them already but have not found any. I therefore tried some grilling reeds which did not work. I tried many different YLTG Oils and tried carrier oils of olive and the YLO carrier oil. Nothing worked. I hope YLO will come out with some in the future. Thanks for thinking of this.

I found this info, but have not tried it yet. It sounds like a good alternative to the store boughten ones that have chemicals in them.
■Mineral Oil, Sweet Almond Oil or Safflower Oil: Select a combination of your favorite essential oils and add as many drops to the carrier oil (Mineral Oil, Sweet Almond Oil or Safflower Oil) as you need to achieve the fragrance you’re after (a good amount to start with is about 12 drops of EO per 1/4 cup of oil). Next add a splash of vodka to help the oil travel up the reeds better. You could also mix the carrier oil with your favorite perfume instead of essential oils (no addition of vodka will be necessary if using perfume).
■Vodka, Essential Oils & Water: Mix approximately 12 drops of essential oils with 1/4 cup of water then add a splash of vodka. The alcohol helps the essential oils bind with the water. This method will evaporate faster than using oils, but still works

Could I use Rubbing alcohol? We are a family of tea totalers and have no desire to bring any into our home.

    Thank you,

Mineral oil is a petroleum based product and I would never recommend it’s use with or without oils. Anyone else feel this way about it?
