Protect Your Mouth With Thieves

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Most of us are concerned with having white teeth, but have you thought about how close you are to having gingivitis or periodontal disease? Dark and moist, your mouth is a prime location for germs and bacteria to grow out of control. Without proper daily care, your mouth, gums, and teeth are headed straight for bacteria heaven.

Taking the time to have proper oral care can prevent many oral health concerns as well as other health risks. It can prevent cavities, tartar, gingivitis (an infection of the gums caused by plaque), and more serious gum diseases such as periodontitis.

To get started, you need a good, reliable tooth brush. Many dentists encourage brushers to use a soft-bristled brush for removing plaque and other debris from the teeth. It is also suggested to use a small-headed brush because it can more easily reach all areas of the mouth.

Next, you need top-of-the-line toothpaste—and Young Living has exactly that! In fact, we offer three different types of toothpastes. Our most gentle toothpaste, Thieves® Dentarome, is generally recommended for children. It has all the benefits of Thieves without being overpowering. For adults, Thieves Dentarome Plus Toothpaste is a great option. It’s a stronger version of the original Dentarome toothpaste because it contains a larger concentration of thymol and eugenol. And for those interested in having a clean mouth with white teeth, Thieves Dentarome Ultra is a perfect choice! It contains the whitening agent papain, an anti-stain enzyme derived from papayas.

Adding any one of our Thieves toothpastes to your daily oral care will help your mouth stay clean, fresh, and bacteria-free!

2009 Balsam Fir Harvest

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Last month Gary Young invited a group of distributors and employees to help harvest balsam fir trees at Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho, as part of the essential oil distillation process (Listen to Gary’s experience here). Many of you who weren’t able to participate have asked about balsam fir and how it’s used as an essential oil. I hope this information is both enlightening and helps answer some of your questions:

Balsam fir looks much like a typical conifer tree—similar to something you’d buy at a Christmas tree lot. During a balsam fir winter harvest, the entire tree is cut and delicately distilled. You probably won’t be surprised to learn that Gary is very particular when it comes to growing and distilling balsam fir essential oil. That’s why he selects his own trees and personally oversees the harvest and distillation process. What better way to ensure maximum purity and potency (read more about the Young Living Therapeutic Grade™ standard) than having one of the world’s leading distillation experts present?

Peppermint Iced Tea

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Young Living Therapeutic Grade™ (YLTG) peppermint essential oil comes from the most potent plants around the globe and is tested to ensure proper levels of menthol and menthone are in every bottle.

But there’s more to YLTG peppermint than just finding the best plants. The secret is in expert harvesting practices. Peppermint is harvested when the field’s overall appearance goes from light to dark green. The growers make sure the plant has just started to bloom before the peppermint is cut, and then water is carefully measured prior to distillation to ensure the most potent constituents are steam-extracted.

Enjoy this fun recipe as a great way to start incorporating peppermint essential oil in to your everyday life!

Peppermint Iced Tea

4 decaffeinated green tea bags
1/4 c. Young Living Blue Agave
3 drops Young Living peppermint essential oil
3 limes

In the bottom of a 64-ounce pitcher, pour agave and peppermint essential oil. Pour hot water over top and stir. Add tea bags and steep until it has a dark caramel color. Quarter limes. Fill serving glasses with ice and squeeze one lime slice in each glass. Pour tea over ice and garnish with a sprig of mint and serve.

Take a Bath and Treat Your Skin and Mood!

Friday, February 13th, 2009

A bath is one of the easiest ways to squeeze in some much-deserved pampering time for your skin and your mood. Relaxing in a tub full of warm, sweet-smelling goodness can seem like the ultimate indulgence but it is anything but frivolous—baths nourish winter-worn skin, ease achy muscles, and even inspire creativity.

You can create a great soak of your own with just a few ingredients from your pantry or local market and a few drops of essential oil. Here is a recipe for a citrus bath that is a favorite of mine and is a great perk to winter blah skin and mood.

Skin-Soothing Citrus Bath
1 navel orange
1 c. whole cloves, divided
1 c. pulp-free orange juice
1/2 c. soy milk
2 tsp. Young Living lavender essential oil

Using Peppermint Essential Oil

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

As we continue to discover the many uses of peppermint essential oil this month, here’s another great usage tip from Young Living distributor Joyce Davis:

“I am new in the oil business, so I’m experimenting. My husband snores so much that it keeps me awake. So one night we put some peppermint essential oil on his pillow, and low and behold, his snoring just about stopped. Thank you!”

Whether you want to experience the cooling sensation of menthol on overworked muscles, enjoy an invigorating foot scrub, or soothe an upset stomach, peppermint essential oil can help! Make sure you add peppermint essential oil to your orders this month and discover the soothing benefits all over again!
